Halloween in 2066

To be honest, we really don't know what to say about this post. Hillary and I decided to be old people this year. We got the idea from our cousin Greg Hansen and his girlfriend Rachel (they were old people last year). And for your viewing pleasure, here are a few from that night.
We went to a comedy show and then out to eat... except nothing was open so we opted for Fridays (sick). Greg and Rachel came with us dressed as Kate Gosslin (from Jon and Kate plus 8) and Willie Wonka.
Things got a little crazy and wigs started to be passed around.

And of course, things just became weirder as the night went on... some black out for teeth was found and Hillary became prettier...
and prettier... really, we don't know how she can be so photogenic in one picture and then look like a 300 lbs down syndrome homeless person in the next... sheer talent.

Then it was my turn for the wig... and yes, that's a real stache

And by the end of the night, I felt like I was 84... but check out that make up. Didn't Hillary do an amazing job? Talented girl... both in looks and make up!

Our friends Katie and Garrett were Jemaine and Brett from Flight of the Conchords
And Fergie even dressed up... by force. A little sheep... and not a happy one.

Hope you all had a HAPPY HALLOWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!!!!!

So my brother Gregory was doing a practice for his photography class and Hillz and I were the subjects... we really couldn't stay still for a photoshoot, but these are some of the shots he got.

The Party's Over

Well, that day has finally arrived... most of you will probably say that it seemed like yesterday that I left on this deployment. However, for Hillary and myself, it's been a long, anticipated 12 months away from each other. I can't believe that I'm actually going home and getting to reunite with Hillary and all of our family and friends. I can't tell you how grateful both Hillary and I are for such supportive friends and family members. Thank you for all your prayers, for your thoughts, for your letters, emails, packages, and keeping Hillary company while I was gone. We could not have done it without all of the help and your support. Thank you a million times over... We love you all and can't wait to spend time with everyone once again!
Now, as far as the deployment's concerned... we've had a little fun for our past couple months here. We went to the range the other day to burn some extra ammo that we had... Well, it just so happened that we had two extra AT-4's or Bazooka's or Rocket Launchers... whatever you want to call them. I took a turn on one and my buddy fired the other one... as you see from the picture. (I'm trying to upload the video, but it's a little too big and my internet's too slow!)
Check out the back blast! It almost knocked me off my feet!

On this deployment, Hill and I have both been through a lot... but here's a list of the best/craziest things that happened to us.
1. Surprisingly enough, Hillary and I are closer than we've ever been in our marriage! Even after spending one year apart, we've fallen more in love than we have been in our 2 years of marriage! Hill and I definitely suggest a deployment to make your marriage stronger! (Even though we hope to never do this again!)
2. Hill worked at Williams Sanoma and hooked us up with all new kitchen supplies!
3. I managed to stay safe and avoid serious injury while fighting in Afghanistan
4. I gained first-hand experience about how a war is fought and has given me a different perspective on life, marriage, the Gospel, and especially Government and politics... I'm sure there might be some political discussions/debates later on... but just know that I'll still love you no matter your views! What's a debate without 2 opposing sides?
Of course I have more, but I shouldn't really divulge more than necessary over the internet (sorry). However, I'd love to share with you all of my experiences and first hand experience that I've seen while being in Afghanistan. And I ALWAYS want to hear your opinions of the war, government, politics, etc... even if they deconflict with mine.

Again, thank you for all of your support. Hill and I are so blessed to have such wonderful family and friends. We both can't wait to spend time with each of you this next year! See you soon in the greatest country in this world!

Okay, okay...i give in.....I'll blog!

Since it says "Davy AND Hillary" on this blog, my sweet, computer savvy husband suggested I add little tid bits from my life here in good 'ol Provo. I don't really think my life can be as interesting as his experiences he's having in Afghanistan. He said making balloon animals and playing rock band isn't too impressive, so quit being a blogging wussy and share! So here is my first attempt. Peace out, Hill

Hair by Hillary

This is Tara, my voice teacher, she asked me to do her hair for her bridal shoot and wedding.
She made a beautiful bride. Here are some pics of her updo.
I love it when people bring in pictures of what they want their hair to look like. I LOVE IT EVEN MORE when it turns out exactly like the model in the magazine. This is my cousin Helen...who actually happens to be a model (that always helps). She has always been a dark brunette, she said she wanted to try "platinum blonde" and asked what i thought of it. I told her she would look beautiful even with a big lump of dog poo on her head.......I told her..."well you'll
never know if you look good blonde unless you try it. I think she looks like a Swedish ice princess. Here a before and after.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to all from wonderful Afghanistan. I'm trying to keep a positive attitude since there's only a few more weeks left! Just thought I'd update with a few pics of what's been going on here. This isn't a venting session like the last post, just some random things to keep our minds off the war.
So, a package was sent to us with a bunch of random stuff for kids here. Being the greedy soldiers that we are (jk) I saw these balloon animals and thought I'd try my hand out at being a clown... I think I found my new calling in life!

I don't know why Hillary thinks I look like a pedophile...

Yup, amazing... I know. A giraffe and Darcey, our daschund.

I don't know if last year's Christmas Eve Prime rib meal was better or this year's Cookies and Cream Ice Cream and carrot sticks. Toss up.

This was a step up from the chow hall Christmas Eve dinner. Little brown... kabobs as they call them (even though they look like something else) and some Afghani bread. Merry Christmas.

We were watching movies all day on Christmas (decided to take the day off) and something was stirring...

But I made sure that didn't last long... Nothing was stirring, not even this mouse.

Davy and his fluffy beard... so hot right now

Thanks to everyone... 7 packages to open on Christmas. The best Christmas ever! (as good as it can be in Afghanistan)

Looks like Santa does visit Afghanistan even though they don't celebrate Christmas here. But, he doesn't want to wear a shirt cuz... it's hot here? Not really, maybe he doesn't want to get paint on his red outfit.

Yup, even the Taliban are after Santa here. But the Taliban's not gettin this Santa Claus!

Ricky was fooled and really thought I was Santa Claus! Maybe the Afghans do believe in Santa Claus! (just kidding, Ricky really isn't a local, he just gets mistaken for one every day)

I was trying to be mad at him, but when he started telling me he wants a rifle like mine and a new toy truck for Christmas, I couldn't help but smile... cute little Afghans

Now, before any of you read on (including parents, sister, sister-in-laws, maybe some brothers and anyone who is offended by some of my shock factor)... we get really bored here. Hill sent me this white spray paint for my beard. Things got a little crazy and I decided to be a little sultry Santa... it doesn't show anything, but just forewarning you. Merry Christmas from one sultry Santa who loves you all in Afghanistan.
